Stuck in a TTC Spiral? Try These Grounding Techniques to Feel More Like You Again

The fertility journey often comes with spirals — mental, emotional, energetic. You’re overthinking every symptom, scrolling too late, Googling things you promised you wouldn’t Google again. Your brain is racing, and your body feels tense.


If you’ve ever thought, “I just want to feel calm again…” this post is for you.

Below are 5 simple grounding practices I recommend to my clients (and use myself) to come back to centre — especially when TTC anxiety flares up.


1. 🖐 EFT Tapping

Tapping is a powerful way to calm the nervous system and interrupt spirals. Just a few rounds on what you’re actually feeling can bring huge relief. Try tapping while saying, “Even though I feel anxious right now, I’m open to calming my body.”

2. 🌬 Breath with Intent

Try the “4-7-8” technique:Inhale for 4 → Hold for 7 → Exhale for 8.This pattern slows your heart rate and helps shift your body into parasympathetic (rest + digest) mode.


3. 🌿 Barefoot on the Earth

If the spiral feels too much, take your shoes off and stand outside for 5 minutes. Let your body connect to the earth. Nature is nervous system medicine.


4. 📵 Reduce Screen Time (Especially in the TWW)

It's so easy to overstimulate your mind with scrolling — especially during the two week wait. Try creating a no-phone zone for the first hour of your day or last hour before bed. Create a Reddit free zone!


5. 🫶 Acknowledge the Emotion, Don’t Bypass It

Grounding doesn’t mean pretending you’re not anxious or sad. It means giving that emotion space without letting it take over. Tapping, journaling, or even saying out loud “this is hard” can shift everything.
