Healthy Body. Healthy Mind. Healthy Life.

Near the end of 2014, my personal wellness slipped off my radar and I sort of forgot to prioritise the principles I hold dear. Just to be clear- I am 100% totally fine with this. There is a season for everything, and there are times when your daily green juice or run around the block may be compromised due to a temporary situation you need to tackle. Forgiveness and acceptance here, is key. A big part of living a freedom filled life is surrender- going with the flow, trust and a certain kind of softness. Trust me- you will find so much more joy by embracing what is.

“Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it.” Eckhart Tolle.

Nevertheless- that busy festive season has now passed, and it’s time to pick up where I left off and reinvigorate my body, mind and spirit with some TLC- something easier said then done as I’m in the middle of a 3 week work trip away from home. Simple is always best! Here’s my gameplan:

  1. Prioritise vegetables at every meal

Vegetables, and eating a lot of them, are your express route to health. Steam, stir fry, juice or pulverise them. Have them raw in a salad- or make a big batch of soup. Fill your diet with a variety of veggies and you’re on your way to feeling brilliant. I aim to include veggies in everything- breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a few snacks throughout the day. Tip: Add in fermented food such as sauerkraut for extra points (your tummy will love you)

  1. Less Coffee. More Herbal Tea I have a love/hate relationship with coffee. Most days it makes me feel zingy and bright, but when I go without it I experience pretty bad withdrawals- migraines, grumpiness and feeling flat as a tack. Coffee is also a gut irritant and incredibly dehydrating- I’m going to start seeing other beverages to help smooth out my moods and give my adrenals a break. Tip: Start a tea ritual to help you feel inspired to drink more fluids every day. Buy yourself a lovely teapot, some awesome tea and drink it mindfully and with thanks. Bonus warm fuzzy feelings if you fill out your gratitude journal as you sip.

  2. Daily Movement

My love gifted me with a brand new Fitbit Charge for Christmas- and I’m stoked. A reminder of how much I haven’t been moving over the past couple of months (I’ve been averaging about 4,000 steps a day- eek) is exactly what I needed to kick me in the bum and go for that daily walk I’m always striving for. Yoga is also hugely important to my health and wellbeing- so I’m aiming to get either a class or a home practise in every day. #yogaeverydamnday etc. Tip: Have a think about what kind of movement would bring you the most joy- do you want to go for a walk in a beautiful location? Try a new dance class and have a giggle with your best friend? Or maybe offer to walk your neighbours dog and run around a field with your new furry pal- whatever it is, find out and just do it.

  1. Meditation

Here’s the thing- I get frazzled quite easily and often if I’m not meditating regularly. Meditation helps me to remain cool as a cucumber, keep in touch with my intuition and ultimately feel lighter. When I do find my way back to my meditation seat- it feels like coming home to myself. It’s a mental exhale, like taking your bra off at the end of a long day of hustling. Heaven. Tip: If the thought of sitting with yours eyes closed unattended freaks you out- try a good-quality guided mediation to get you started. The wonderful Claire Obeid has created a fantastic series here, and keep an eye out for her 21 day meditation project. You’ll feel all blissed out and zen-like in not time.
